What do retail wine staff and waiters really know about your wine?
I had to smile when I came across a video recently on social media where a hotel guest asked the staff to pronounce 'Vergelegen'. Although humorous, these are staff who may be asked to recommend a wine and if they struggle to even prounounce it, chances are they won't recommend it.
The video shows the problem - and the solution!

When a brand name isn't in your first language, some may struggle to pronounce it properly. Ask ten people to pronounce Hyundai, Huawei and Moët & Chandon and you may get ten different versions of each.
The problem is also not only with pronunciation. With the number of wines on the shelf or on a wine list, it’s challenging for those selling or recommending your wine to remember even the most basic details about the wine and the winery. The wine region? The winemakers name? A short description of the winery? What's it good to pair with?
How can you change this and get them to confidently sell or recommend your wine?

It’s simple. By including a ‘talking’ QR Code on your label or a neck tag they can scan the QR Code and then listen to a personal voice note from the winemaker who tells them all about your wine, gives some information about your winery and even offers some food & wine pairing tips.
They can learn more about your wines this way, talk far more confidently about them and even offer some food pairing tips.
So, as long as your bottles are on the shelf, retail wine staff can refer to the information at any time to refresh their memories and to learn more.
Restaurant waiters can also confidently recommend your wine from their wine list and even provide some information about your winery.
Your wine label is your training guide and marketing tool.

Wine retail staff and wine servers can also refer customers to the QR Codes on your labels so that they too can learn more about your wines - and make a more personal connection with you. The QR Codes can also be printed on the wine list and can include links to your website, online store, social media, wine club, events and more.
Try a few out. It could be your most effective training and sales tool - right on your label.

In retail stores, dynamic QR Codes, sometimes also referred to as Augmented Reality Codes, can be printed on labels, on a neck label, shelf talker, poster, price displays and they could be included on video shelf strips which also display branded content.
For restaurants, bars and on consumption venues, the dynamic QR Codes can be printed on menus, wine lists and table talkers.
