ABOUT US:

Stanley Edwards has been in media production since 1986. He received his National Diploma in Photography from the Port Elizabeth Technikon and worked as a Director / Producer for production houses in Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Cape Town working primarily on large scale multimedia events and launches.

In 1992 he founded Platypus Productions, a full-service content production company whose services include television commercials, broadcast productions, corporate communications, branded entertainment, new media and digital. He has directed productions locally and internationally for a wide range of clients.

In 2012 he founded Platypus Digital which focuses on developing digital content delivery platforms, retail and event display technologies, interactive solutions, virtual and augmented reality and applications for mobile platforms.

Besides his passion for producing & directing content, he evaluates marketing trends, digital and mobile technologies with a focus on content delivery over multiple platforms.

He recently developed a first of its kind project for Africa and built a 30-seater 360 virtual reality cinema at Skukuza in the Kruger National Park which screens wildlife & nature documentaries to visitors.

In 2024 he brought the first mobile Super Reality Dome into South Africa which has been used by Unilever and Heineken Beverages, was set up for Santa Land and Valentine's activations in malls and was used at World Travel Market Africa and at the Cape Town Beverage Show where an immersive wine and music pairing was offered to visitors.

​Digital innovation in marketing and consumer engagement has always been the driving force for Stanley. In 2008 he developed an augmented reality campaign for Grant’s Whisky and produced Africa’s first DVD lifestyle magazine for Peter Stuyvesant.

In 2006 he used virtual reality for a Peter Stuyvesant consumer activation as well as using holographic and 3D video mapping projection for events for cigarette brands Kent & Dunhill.

Oenomancy is an ancestral and mysterious form of fortune-telling derived from the cryptic patterns left by spilled wine. Charles Back from Fairview created Oenomancy in 2014 and for it’s launch we created and augmented reality living label where Madame Fantôme reads into the enigmatic elixir, its brooding textures and deep aromas of spice and fruit - A perfect vessel to reveal your fate.

To launch their online store in 2016 we created an online virtual reality shopping experience for Picardi Rebel. Shoppers could not only shop virtually as if their were walking through the store but also click on links to find out more about the various products.

SOLEIL SOCIÉTÉ CLUB is a unique ‘talking wine tasting kit’ where each of the ten vinitubes in the tasting kit include a dynamic QR Code which, when scanned automatically plays a voice note from the winemakers who describe the wine and gives more information about the wine estate. The dynamic QR Code also links directly to the wineries online store so that after tasting, wine lovers can order the wines they enjoyed. Try out some of the dynamic QR Codes on -  www.SOLEIL.club

The Great Wine Capitals is a network of 12 major wine regions and hosted a Wine, Tourism & Innovation Forum at their annual conference which covered the following: New technologies: How can augmented reality, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and apps improve the consumer’s experience in terms of purchase, visits, knowledge and wine acculturation?

Stanley was a panelist at the conference in Bordeaux and also presented on the power of creating immersive experiences to promote and market wine tourism.

CONFERENCES:

Hosted by Platypus Digital and aimed at the wine industry, the goal of the ReInvent 2020 Workshop was to showcase simple, cost effective and easy ways to use digital tools and applications. The workshop demystified these technologies and showed you how they can be integrated into marketing channels and various digital media.
