In 2023 and again in 2025, HEINEKEN South Africa launched its highly successful ‘Bar de Change’ campaign, allowing departing South African travellers to purchase beer tokens and then enjoy Heineken beer overseas at prices linked to the South African Rand rather than local exchange rates.
By partnering with selected bars in international destinations, the campaign transformed an everyday purchase into a memorable travel experience, generating significant media coverage and customer engagement.
We believe there is an opportunity to create the wine equivalent.

VIN DE CHANGE encourages travellers to purchase South African wine before departure at a wine estate, a retailer, at the airport - or onboard their flight if available - and then use our CORKAGE MAP to discover participating corkage-friendly restaurants at the destination that welcome guests bringing their own wine, either free of charge or for a modest corkage fee.
Instead of paying high restaurant wine prices overseas, travellers enjoy South African wine with their meal while discovering new restaurants that they may not have considered through our CORKAGE MAP.
It’s that simple.

SHARING THE LOVE - PROMOTING SOUTH AFRICAN WINE & WINE TOURISM
VIN DE CHANGE can also be used to promote South African wine and encourage wine tourism. A travellers takes two bottles of wine to a participating corkage-friendly restaurant. They enjoy one bottle with their meal and give the second bottle to the restaurant owner or chef.

When the bottle of wine is shared with the restaurant owner or chef, it will include a dynamic QR Code which includes a personal voice note from the winemaker, a video about Cape Winelands, a link to the Visit Winelands website and a link to book a trip.

WINE & FOOD PAIRING
VIN DE CHANGE can be extended to globally where travellers can see how South African wine pairs with global food. They would purchase a bottle of South African wine from a local retailer and use the CORKAGE MAP to find a participating local restaurant near them where they can experience a pairing with South African wine.
